BJP's Himanta Sarma Banned From Campaign Over NIA Threat To Congress Ally

New Delhi/Guwahati:

Assam minister and senior BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma has been barred for campaigning for 48 hours, after the Election Commission acted on a complaint by the Congress.

The Congress had accused Mr Sarma, the main poll strategist for the BJP in Assam, of passing threatening remarks against Hagrama Mohilary, whose BPF (Bodoland People’s Front) is a member of the opposition alliance.

Assam is scheduled to hold the third and final phase of the 2021 Assembly election on April 6, effectively meaning that Mr Sarma can no longer campaign for the BJP.
