Extending Vaccine Intervals May Leave You Vulnerable To Variants: Dr Fauci

New Delhi:

Extending intervals between Covid vaccine doses could leave people vulnerable to infection by one of the variants of the virus, Dr Anthony Fauci, the medical advisor to the President of the United States, told NDTV Friday.

Dr Fauci was responding to questions about the recommended intervals in the US; three weeks for the Pfizer vaccine and four for the Moderna jab.

However, Dr Fauci also said extending doses might be the right call if a country were struggling with supply of vaccines.

Last month India extended the gap between the first and second dose of the Covishield vaccine to 12-16 weeks – from the existing six-eight weeks. No changes were announced for Covaxin.
